Recall 12V569 affects 337 2006-2012 Coach & Equipment Phoenix and Metro-Lite buses with wheelchair-lift cable routing that can short circuit. A Ricon cover kit is free.
Coach & Equipment is recalling 337 2006-2012 Phoenix and Metro-Lite transit buses because the armored pendant cable on a Ricon wheelchair lift can be routed into the lift without proper protection. If the cable contacts the power lug at the lift base, it can short circuit and start a fire; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The wheelchair lift on 2006-2012 Coach & Equipment Phoenix and Metro-Lite transit buses uses a pendant control, the hand control an operator uses to move the lift. On buses equipped with the optional armored pendant cable, that cable protects the control wiring while the lift deploys, raises, lowers, and stows. The cable has to route clear of moving lift hardware.
On affected Phoenix and Metro-Lite buses, the armored pendant cable was installed where it does not clear the wheelchair lift. Some buses also lack the protective cover, or have a cover installed the wrong way. When the lift moves, that routing leaves the cable exposed to contact with the lift instead of keeping it protected and out of the lift path.
There is no warning sign before failure. Before using the lift, an operator can inspect whether the pendant cable is clear of the lift and whether the protective cover is present and correctly seated.

What's the safety risk?
On affected Phoenix and Metro-Lite vehicles, a wheel chair lift cable can contact the power lug at the lift base. That contact can short circuit the electrical system and start a fire. Schedule the recall repair soon and limit lift use until the cable cover is installed. Repair will be free at any franchised Coach & Equipment dealer once available.
