Recall 12V405 covers 1,663 2009-2012 Freightliner trucks for air tank brackets that can crack and detach. Repair is free at any franchised Freightliner dealer.
Freightliner is recalling 1,663 2009-2012 trucks, including the 114SD, Business Class M2, Coronado, Cascadia, 4700, and 9500, because perpendicular air tank mounting brackets can crack and separate from the frame rail. If an air tank separates from a moving vehicle, it can create a road debris hazard and raise crash risk; the Freightliner dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The air tank mounting brackets on 2009-2012 Freightliner 114SD, 4700, Business Class M2, Coronado, 9500, and Cascadia trucks hold the compressed air tanks against the frame rail. Those tanks store pressurized air for truck systems that depend on a secure, frame-mounted air supply. The brackets are supposed to keep the tanks fixed in place while the truck moves, loads, and vibrates.
On affected trucks, the perpendicular air tank mounting brackets develop cracks. As those cracks grow, the bracket loses strength and separates from the frame rail. Once the bracket lets go, the air tank is no longer held securely and separates from the vehicle.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner or technician sees the problem only if cracks are found during an inspection, or after the bracket or tank has already separated.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
Air tanks that separate from a moving Freightliner can become road debris and increase the risk of a crash for nearby traffic. If your VIN is included, schedule the recall repair soon and avoid trips that feel unsafe. Repair will be free at any franchised Freightliner dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2009-2012 Freightliner 114SD, 4700, Business Class M2, Coronado, 9500, or Cascadia is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Freightliner dealer and ask whether the free air-tank mounting-bracket replacement is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 12V405 when you call the dealer.
- Schedule the air-tank mounting-bracket replacement that fixes brackets that crack and let air tanks separate from the frame rail.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and avoid operating the vehicle if you see a loose or damaged air tank bracket.
What happens at the repair
The remedy record identifies the dealer repair as replacement of the air tank mounting brackets. Once the dealer remedy is available for your VIN, a Freightliner technician replaces the cracked or defect-prone brackets that secure the air tanks to the frame rail. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Ask the service desk to confirm the campaign by VIN before the visit, since the included model years and equipment decide whether this repair applies.
