Recall 12V186 covers 2,060 2007-2010 Startrans transit buses with Braun wheelchair lifts and roll-stop latches that can misalign. Authorized Braun dealers repair it free.
Startrans is recalling 2,060 2007-2010 Senator, Candidate Ii, and related transit buses because roll stop latches on Braun Century-2 and Vista-2 wheelchair lifts can bend or shift out of alignment. The defect can allow a wheelchair occupant to ride over an insufficiently latched outer barrier when the platform is raised, raising fall and injury risk; the Startrans dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The wheelchair lift on affected 2007-2010 Startrans transit buses is the Braun Century-2 or Vista-2 lift mounted to help a wheelchair user board or exit the bus. Its outer barrier has roll stop latches, small locking points that hold the barrier in position at the outside edge of the platform. When those latches are aligned, the barrier helps keep the wheelchair from moving off the platform during lift use.
On these buses, repeated lift cycling can bend the roll stop latches or move them out of alignment. Once that happens, the outer barrier does not latch the way it was designed to latch. The barrier can sit in the wrong position, leaving the lift without the intended stop at the platform edge.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver or attendant needs to inspect the outer barrier and latch position during normal lift checks, especially if the barrier does not close, sit square, or latch cleanly.

What's the safety risk?
An insufficiently latched roll stop can let a wheelchair occupant defeat or ride over the barrier. If that happens while the lift platform is raised, the occupant can fall and be injured. Use the lift only with the roll stop fully latched and have the vehicle checked soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Startrans dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2007-2010 Startrans Senator, Candidate Ii, Candidate, Senator Hd, Trolley, Vans, Senator Ii, or President bus is included in this recall.
- Contact Startrans customer service at 1-800-642-4889 to confirm the current repair path for the wheelchair-lift roll-stop latch recall.
- Ask where an authorized Braun dealer performs the free repair for the Century-2 or Vista-2 wheelchair lift.
- Reference recall number 12V186 when you call, and bring the recall notice if Startrans sent one.
- Keep wheelchair-lift service limited until the repair, since a bent or misaligned outer-barrier roll stop latch can let a wheelchair occupant fall from an elevated platform.
What happens at the repair
The recall record says Startrans notified owners and authorized Braun dealers perform the repair free of charge. At an authorized Braun dealer, a Startrans technician checks the Braun Century-2 or Vista-2 wheelchair lift outer barrier and corrects roll stop latches that are bent or misaligned, so the barrier can latch as intended. Parts and labor are covered under the recall.
