Recall 12V074 covers 103,437 2006-2013 Western Star trucks with diesel fuel-line supports that loosen after service. Repair is free at Western Star service facilities.
Western Star is recalling 103,437 2006-2013 vehicles, including 6900 trucks, because high-pressure fuel line supports on certain Detroit Diesel engines can loosen after service work. A fuel leak can create a road hazard, raise crash risk, or result in a fire near an ignition source; the Western Star dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The high-pressure fuel line on affected 2006-2013 Western Star trucks carries diesel fuel from the engine's pump to the fuel rail. That rail feeds the engine injectors, so the line has to stay tight, aligned, and supported while the diesel engine runs under pressure.
The problem is in the pump-to-rail fuel line support system used with Detroit Diesel EPA07 and EPA10, DD13, and DD15/16 engines. The supports are sensitive to assembly torque, which means too much or too little tightening during service work damages the support setup. After other repairs, the supports can loosen and let the fuel line move instead of staying fixed. That movement can crack the line and create a diesel fuel leak.
There is no warning sign before failure. If the line has already cracked, the first thing an owner or driver notices can be fuel odor, visible wet fuel near the engine, or fuel leaking from the truck.

The year, make, and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
A fuel leak creates a road hazard, increasing crash risk. Fuel that reaches an ignition source can also start a fire. Schedule the recall repair soon, and ask the dealer what to do if fuel is leaking now. Repair will be free at any franchised Western Star dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2006-2013 Western Star vehicle is included in this recall.
- Watch for the owner notice DTNA mailed on April 27, 2012, or ask Western Star customer service for a copy if you bought the vehicle used.
- Contact a franchised Western Star service facility and reference recall number 12V074 when you call.
- Ask whether the high pressure fuel line support replacement applies to your engine, since loose supports can lead to fuel line cracking and a fuel leak.
- Bring the recall notice to the service facility if you have it. The recall repair is free.
What happens at the repair
At an authorized Western Star service facility, a Western Star technician checks the pump to rail high pressure fuel line support system and replaces the support system when required. The source record says the safety recall began on April 27, 2012, and the repair is performed free of charge. Because this record does not list a current remedy status, confirm parts and scheduling with the service facility before you bring the truck in.
