Recall 11V592 covers 14,718 2011-2012 INFINITI M, Pathfinder, Xterra, Nv, Fx, and Frontier vehicles for weak oil-filter bolts. Free repair at any franchised INFINITI dealer.
INFINITI is recalling 14,718 2011-2012 M, Pathfinder, Xterra, Nv, Fx, and Frontier vehicles because an under-strength bolt at the engine oil filter attachment point can break and cause an oil leak. If oil pressure drops, the engine can seize and raise the risk of a crash; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The oil filter and engine oil cooler on the 2011-2012 INFINITI M, Pathfinder, Xterra, Nv, Fx, and Frontier vehicles are mounted to the engine with a retaining bolt. The oil filter removes debris from engine oil. The oil cooler helps control oil temperature while the engine is running. That bolt has to hold the filter and cooler firmly against the engine so oil stays sealed inside the system.
In affected vehicles, the bolt was made with strength below specification. Under normal engine load and vibration, the weak bolt can break at the oil filter attachment point. Once the bolt breaks, the seal at the filter assembly no longer holds as designed, and engine oil can leak from that area.
There is no warning sign before failure. After the bolt breaks, an owner notices oil under the vehicle, a burning-oil smell, or an oil-pressure warning light, but those signs mean the leak has already started.

What's the safety risk?
An engine oil leak can drop oil pressure and cause the engine to seize, increasing crash risk. If you see oil leaking, hear abnormal engine noise, or get an oil pressure warning, stop in a safe place and call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised INFINITI dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2011-2012 INFINITI M, Pathfinder, Xterra, Nv, Fx, or Frontier is included in this recall.
- Check your records for the owner letter Nissan began mailing on January 30, 2012.
- Contact a franchised INFINITI dealer and ask whether the free connector-bolt replacement is still open for recall number 11V592.
- Schedule the connector-bolt replacement that fixes the weak oil-filter attachment bolt and helps prevent an engine oil leak.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it, and reference recall number 11V592 when you call.
- Stop driving if you see an engine oil leak or an oil-pressure warning, and ask the dealer about towing.
What happens at the repair
The filing says the dealer repair is to replace the connector bolts that secure the engine oil cooler and engine oil filter to the engine. At the dealer, an INFINITI technician removes the affected bolts, installs replacement connector bolts, and checks the oil filter attachment area for related oil leakage. Parts and labor are covered under the recall once the final repair is available.
