Recall 11V298 covers 703 2011-2012 Fleetwood Class A motor homes for wire harness damage near exhaust heat. Free dealer inspection and rerouting.
Fleetwood is recalling 703 2011-2012 Bounder, Southwind, Bounder Classic, Storm, and Terra motor homes because a wire harness under the coach can rub a heat shield near the passenger-side exhaust manifold. Damage to that harness can cause an electrical short, intermittent electrical operation, vehicle shutdown, fire, or loss of control; the Fleetwood dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The wire harness on these Fleetwood 2011-2012 Bounder, Bounder Classic, Southwind, Storm, and Terra motor homes is a bundled set of electrical wires routed under the coach. It carries power and signals through the chassis area, and its insulation is supposed to keep those wires separated from heat, metal edges, and each other.
On affected motor homes, that harness runs close to a heat shield next to the passenger side engine exhaust manifold. Contact with the shield, or heat from that area, can melt the harness insulation or damage the wiring. Once the insulation is damaged, the wiring no longer has the protection it needs in that hot chassis location.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner should not count on a light, sound, or smell before the harness is already damaged.

What's the safety risk?
A damaged wire harness can create an electrical short, interrupt electrical systems, shut the vehicle down, or lead to a fire. That risk includes loss of vehicle control, injury, or death. If electrical systems cut out while driving, move to a safe place, stop, and call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Fleetwood dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2011-2012 Fleetwood Southwind, Bounder, Bounder Classic, Storm, or Terra is included in this recall.
- Watch for Fleetwood's owner notice or call Fleetwood owner relations at 1-800-509-3418 for repair timing.
- Ask a franchised Fleetwood service center about the free wire-harness inspection and rerouting that addresses harness contact with the passenger-side exhaust heat shield.
- Reference recall number 11V298 when you call, and bring the recall notice if Fleetwood mailed one.
- Avoid driving if electrical systems operate intermittently or the motor home shuts down; ask Fleetwood about moving the vehicle safely.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Fleetwood technician inspects the underbody wire harness near the chassis rail and passenger side engine exhaust manifold. The technician reroutes the harness away from the heat shield so it no longer sits close enough to melt or suffer heat damage. Fleetwood expected the recall service to begin during June 2011. The dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under recall 11V298.
