Recall 11V295 covers 584 2012 Mack CHU, CXU, GU, MRU, LEU, and TD trucks for defective driveline tubing. Repair is free at any franchised Mack dealer.
Mack is recalling 584 2012 Granite (Gu), Pinnacle (Chu), Leu, Pinnacle (Cxu), Td, and Mru trucks equipped with Meritor drivelines because the tubing has a nonconforming seam weld with insufficient bonding. Under recall 11V295, a fractured driveline can disable the truck or drop debris onto the road, which increases crash risk; the Mack dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The driveline on 2012 Mack Granite (Gu), Pinnacle (Chu), Leu, Pinnacle (Cxu), Td, and Mru trucks carries engine power from the transmission toward the drive axle. It uses a metal tube that has to stay straight, balanced, and firmly bonded so torque moves through it without the tube twisting or separating.
On the recalled trucks, the affected Meritor driveline tubing was built with a nonconforming weld joint. The weld did not bond the material enough during assembly. That leaves the tube weaker at the joint, where normal driving loads and vibration place stress on the driveline.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver should not count on noise, vibration, or a dashboard message to identify this defect before the driveline tube fails.
Who's affected?
Covers six Mack truck lines from the 2012 model year, all tied to the driveline.

What's the safety risk?
A driveline weld fracture under torque can disable the vehicle. If driveline debris falls onto the roadway, it increases the risk of a crash for your truck and nearby traffic. Schedule the recall repair soon, and pull over safely if the driveline stops working. Repair will be free at any franchised Mack dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2012 Mack Granite (Gu), Pinnacle (Chu), Leu, Pinnacle (Cxu), Td, or Mru is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mack dealer and ask whether the free driveline replacement is open for recall number 11V295.
- Bring the recall notice if Mack mailed one, or give the dealer recall number 11V295 when you call.
- Ask the dealer to replace the Meritor driveline that has the faulty tube weld and can leave the truck disabled or drop debris on the road.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and stop using the truck if the driveline noise, vibration, or loss of power changes.
What happens at the repair

The recall began on July 25, 2011, but this record does not state a current remedy status. The dealer repair will be free once available. If the VIN is included, ask the service desk to match the truck to campaign 11V295 and the driveline replacement.
