Recall 11V243 covers 4,333 2007-2011 Eldorado Aero Elite, Transtech, Aerotech, and Aerolite buses for loose air-conditioner fuses. Carrier provides the free repair.
Eldorado is recalling 4,333 2007-2011 Aerotech, Aerolite, Aero Elite, and Transtech buses equipped with Carrier GenV EM-1 evaporator units because the fuse can loosen in its holder, creating high resistance and arcing. Enough arcing can melt the fuse holder and start a vehicle fire; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The affected 2007-2011 Eldorado Aero Elite, Transtech, Aerotech, and Aerolite buses use a Carrier GenV EM-1 evaporator unit as part of the air conditioning system. The evaporator helps cool air before it is sent through the bus cabin. Its electrical circuit uses a fuse and fuse holder to protect the air conditioning equipment from excess current.
On these buses, heat and vibration over time loosen the fuse inside the holder. A loose fuse makes poor electrical contact, which creates high resistance, meaning the current has to push through a weak connection. That weak connection leads to arcing, a spark-like jump of electricity inside the fuse holder.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner or operator should not count on a light, sound, or change in air conditioning performance before the fuse connection fails.

What's the safety risk?
NHTSA campaign 11V243 describes fuse-holder arcing that can melt the holder and lead to a vehicle fire. Because the risk is fire, schedule the recall work once the repair path is open and follow dealer instructions if the electrical system shows trouble. Repair will be free at any franchised Eldorado dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2007-2011 Eldorado Aero Elite, Transtech, Aerotech, or Aerolite bus is included in this recall.
- Call Carrier at 1-800-793-4741 for the retrofit kit and repair instructions for the GenV EM-1 evaporator fuse holder.
- Reference recall number 11V243 when you call, and tell the service contact the bus has a Carrier GenV EM-1 evaporator unit.
- Avoid using the air-conditioning system until the retrofit is complete if the fuse holder shows heat damage, melting, or arcing.
- Keep the repair paperwork after the free retrofit service is completed.
What happens at the repair
The known remedy is a Carrier retrofit kit for the GenV EM1 evaporator unit. Once the repair is available, an Eldorado technician installs the kit using Carrier's repair instructions so the fuse holder problem is corrected. The work is free under the recall. Carrier also said it would notify owners and explain how to obtain the retrofit kit and instructions, so the service desk should be able to confirm the kit path for an included bus.
