What's wrong?
On 2006-2011 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner Hdx, Saf-T-Liner C2, Mvp-Ef, Minotour, and FS-65 school buses, the recalled part is tied to the Carrier GenV EM-1 evaporator unit. That unit is part of the air conditioning system, and its electrical circuit uses a fuse to protect the wiring if current gets too high. The fuse holder is supposed to keep that fuse tight so power flows through a solid contact.
On affected buses, time, temperature, and vibration loosen the fuse inside the holder. A loose fuse creates high resistance, which means electrical current has to pass through a poor contact. That poor contact causes arcing, an electrical spark across the gap, and the connection no longer works as designed.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver or fleet technician should treat an included VIN as needing dealer inspection and the recall repair, even if the air conditioning system still appears to work normally.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.
What's the safety risk?
Electrical arcing at the fuse holder can melt the holder and lead to a vehicle fire. Keep the bus in service only as needed, and arrange the recall repair soon so the fuse holder is retrofitted before more heat damage occurs. Repair will be free at any franchised Thomas Built Buses dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2006-2011 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner Hdx, Saf-T-Liner C2, Mvp-Ef, Minotour, or FS-65 is included in this recall.
- Use the owner notice mailed May 20, 2011, or ask Thomas Built Buses for the Carrier retrofit-kit instructions.
- Schedule the free Carrier retrofit-kit service that secures the evaporator-unit fuse holder and reduces arcing risk.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 11V222 when you call.
- Avoid operating the bus with signs of electrical arcing, melted fuse-holder parts, smoke, or burning smell until the repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
