Recall 10V517 covers 747,480 2004-2006 Nissan vehicles for ECM relay contamination that can stall the engine. Repair is free at franchised Nissan dealers.
Nissan is recalling 747,480 2004-2006 Armada, Titan, QX56, Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra vehicles because the IPDM assembly contains an ECM relay that can develop silicon oxide on the relay contact. That defect can stall the engine and increase crash risk; the Nissan dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The intelligent power distribution module, or IPDM, is the under-hood electrical box that routes power to key engine systems. In the 2004-2006 Armada, Titan, QX56, Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra, it contains the engine control module relay, the switch that feeds power to the computer managing engine operation. A diode inside that relay reduces electrical noise.
On affected vehicles, the diode molding releases silicon vapor over time. As the relay arcs during normal switching, that vapor leads to silicon oxide buildup on the relay contact. The buildup interferes with the contact surface, so the relay stops making a clean electrical connection to the engine control module.
There is no warning sign before failure. The engine controls can lose steady power without a dashboard warning or a clear change in how the vehicle feels beforehand.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
An ECM relay problem can make the engine stall, which increases the risk of a crash. If the engine stalls while driving, steer to a safe place, stop, and contact a Nissan dealer before you drive farther. Repair will be free at any franchised Nissan dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2004-2006 Nissan Armada, Titan, QX56, Pathfinder, Frontier, or Xterra is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Nissan dealer to schedule the free ECM relay replacement inside the IPDM assembly, the repair for the engine-stalling risk.
- Reference recall number 10V517 when you call the dealer.
- Bring the recall notice if Nissan mailed one, along with any service records tied to engine stalling or the IPDM assembly.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and pull over safely if the engine stalls.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Nissan technician replaces the ECM relay inside the Intelligent Power Distribution Module assembly. That relay helps supply power control for the engine computer, so the repair focuses on replacing the faulty relay rather than the whole vehicle system. Nissan's recall service began on December 6, 2010, and the replacement is performed free of charge under the recall. Parts and labor are covered.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 10V517?
Recall 10V517 covers 747,480 2004-2006 Nissan Armada, Titan, QX56, Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra vehicles with an ECM relay defect inside the IPDM assembly. The relay can develop silicon oxide on its contact, causing engine stalling and increasing crash risk.
What should I do if my 2004-2006 Nissan Armada, Titan, QX56, Pathfinder, Frontier, or Xterra is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 10V517. If it is, contact a franchised Nissan dealer to schedule ECM relay replacement inside the IPDM assembly. Reference recall number 10V517 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Nissan dealers will replace the ECM relay inside the IPDM assembly free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for vehicles included in recall 10V517.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is engine stalling. The ECM relay defect can interrupt engine control, which can make the engine stall while driving and increase crash risk. If your VIN is included, arrange the free dealer repair before continuing normal use.
What if I bought this vehicle used?
The free repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the vehicle, not the first owner. If you never received the original notice, check your VIN and give the Nissan dealer recall number 10V517 when you schedule the ECM relay replacement.
