What's wrong?
The connecting rods in the 2010 Aprilla RSV4 engine link each piston to the crankshaft. As the piston moves up and down, the rod transfers that motion into crankshaft rotation, which sends power through the engine. The rod has to stay straight and strong while the engine is under heat and load.
On the affected RSV4 motorcycles, the manufacturing process used to straighten the connecting rods left stress inside the metal. That stress reduced the strength and reliability of the rod. A stressed rod can fail inside the engine instead of carrying the piston load as designed, leaving the engine unable to run correctly.
There is no warning sign before failure. The rider notices the problem only when the engine stops running correctly.

The dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered by the recall.
