Recall 10V015 covers 426 Orion V, Ii, Vii, and Vi buses with remote throttle wiring. Free repair at a franchised Orion dealer.
Orion is recalling 426 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 V, Ii, Vii, and Vi transit buses because a rear throttle control switch can leave the engine set above idle after maintenance. When restarted from the driver's station, the bus can accelerate faster than expected and increase crash risk; the Orion dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The Morse remote throttle control on these Orion V, Ii, Vii, and Vi buses lets maintenance staff operate the engine from the engine compartment. Its switch selects which station controls engine speed: the driver's station at the front, or the rear station at the engine. During service work, that rear control is used to raise engine RPM while a technician is working near the engine.
The problem starts when the rear throttle station is left active after service. If the switch stays in the rear position and the engine speed was set above idle, a later start from the driver's station is at risk of picking up that higher RPM setting. That creates unwanted engine power instead of the expected idle-speed start.
Owners and operators are not given a separate warning sign before this happens. There is no warning sign before failure. The condition depends on the rear throttle switch position and the engine speed left after maintenance.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific bus.
What's the safety risk?
Unexpected faster acceleration gives the driver less control over the bus and increases the risk of a crash. If the bus accelerates more strongly than commanded, brake steadily, keep distance from traffic, and arrange recall service. Repair will be free at any franchised Orion dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, or 2009 Orion V, Ii, Vii, or Vi bus is included in this recall.
- Contact Orion customer service at 1-800-716-7466 and reference recall number 10V015 when you call.
- Ask for the free wiring modification to the Morse throttle control switch, which prevents unwanted engine power from a rear-control maintenance setting.
- Bring the recall notice if Daimler mailed one, or give the dealer the recall number and VIN at scheduling.
- Keep extra space around the bus during yard moves until the wiring modification is complete.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Orion technician follows Daimler's instructions to modify the wiring for the Morse throttle control switch in the engine compartment. The repair addresses the switch that selects the active engine control station, so the bus does not return to a higher engine speed set during rear-station maintenance when started from the driver's station. The remedy record says the safety recall began on April 1, 2010, and the service is free of charge.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 10V015?
Recall 10V015 covers 426 Orion transit buses with a Morse remote throttle control wiring issue. If the rear engine-control switch is left active after maintenance, the bus can start from the driver's station at a higher engine speed, increasing crash risk. The wiring modification is free.
What should I do if my 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 Orion V, Ii, Vii, or Vi is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific bus is included in recall 10V015. If it is, contact an Orion service provider and ask for the Morse throttle control switch wiring modification. Reference recall number 10V015 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the recall repair at no cost, and the filed remedy for recall 10V015 states that the Morse throttle control wiring modification is performed free of charge. The safety recall began on April 1, 2010.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is unwanted engine power after maintenance. If the rear engine-control station remains active and the engine speed was set above idle, the bus can accelerate faster than the driver expects when started from the driver's station, increasing crash risk.
What if I bought this Orion bus used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the VIN, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific Orion bus is included, then contact an Orion service provider with recall number 10V015.
